Lunacards

DESIGNED 1994

The United States of America was quite the coolest place in the early Nineties. A young Democratic government, the birth of the Indie movie scene at Sundance and, most importantly, the music. Compared to that energy, in spite of the then-recent reunification of Germany that should have jolted the culture, Europe felt quite asleep.

I visited the US for the first time in those years. I visited New York, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boulder and was fascinated by the verbose street signs and the shameless advertising slogans. In hindsight, these cards display cultural naïveté, linguistic ignorance and an obsession with postmodern theory and the layering language known from Cranbrook and CalArts.

The design won a Certificate of Typographic Excellence from the Type Directors Club in New York.
